Hong Kong China Equestrian Team Shines at Hangzhou Asian Games

The Hangzhou Asian Games became the backdrop for a historic moment as the Hong Kong China Equestrian team clinched both silver and bronze medals. This outstanding achievement not only made our city proud but also marked a significant milestone in our sporting journey. This remarkable accomplishment not only celebrated the exceptional skills of our riders but also marked a milestone in Hong Kong’s sporting history! Clinical Director of The Physio Lab Hong Kong, Majid Khan, was on-site at the games, providing invaluable support as a consultant physiotherapist to ensure the riders and their support team were in peak condition for the competition.

Majid Khan ensured that the riders and their support team were physically prepared and ready to tackle the challenges of the competition by expertly managing the physiotherapy and recovery needs throughout the event. A makeshift clinic was set up in the stable to ensure comprehensive care.

Here's how Majid provided support:

Assessment and Flexibility

  • Each rider was assessed upon arrival to establish a baseline and identify any potential issues that may affect their performance leading into the day of competition.

  • Ensuring that their flexibility was within the normal range to excel in their events.

Recovery

  • Majid's expertise was critical in optimizing their recovery through massages and stretching, making sure that the riders were ready to perform at their optimum the next day.

Cooling and Hydration

  • Given the hot temperatures during the first 10 days of the competition, measures such as arranging ice packs, ice towels, and cooling the riders as they got off the horse were crucial.

  • Ensuring that each rider had their preferred hydration drinks available after each training session to stay at the peak of their abilities.

Mobility and Strength Work

  • Majid Khan and worked on mobility and core strength activation with the riders, ensuring they were at their physical best leading into the competition.

Support for Coaching Staff

  • Not just the riders, but the entire support and coaching staff were treated to ensure they could perform their daily duties to the best of their ability.
